Berchtesgaden and its surrounding area offers wonderful nature, spectacular views, great hiking trails and the best infrastructure. Due to their proximity to Salzburg, they are also popular to go there for just a daytrip. The Berchtesgadener Land often enjoys the most beautiful winter weather (at least if you stay away from the Saalach). But even without the weather advantage, the area has a lot to offer actually at any time of the year. It is always worth a visit.

Exploring the Magic Forest in Hintersee on it’s nature trail
The name of the forest says it all: The wild and romantic landscape of the magic forest was created by rockfalls and has honestly earned the name magic forest due to its varied landscape: gnarled trees, huge boulders, small bridges, wild roots and in between the glowing blue stream meanders through. The starting point is the Pfeiffenmacherbrücke in Ramsau, or if you prefer it a little shorter, you can start at the P1 car park right on the Hintersee. The hike is mostly flat and partly even groomed, but not suitable for stroller.
Walking and tobogganing along lake Hintersee
You can easily combine the walk around the Hintersee and the little toboggan adventure with exploring the magic forest. But the mini hikes with the brilliant views of the Berchtesgaden Alps are also good on their own. In winter the lake is partly frozen, so you can go even ice skating here. You can also read details here: Tobogganing at Hintersee.
